Volunteering in the UK
In addition to a busy programme of overseas volunteering trips, Dentaid also has many opportunities for dental professionals to volunteer in the UK.
Volunteer with Bright Bites
Dentaid’s Bright Bites programme involves volunteers visiting primary schools to deliver an oral health education programme. The project is currently running in Leeds and Dentaid is looking to expand it to other parts of the country. Volunteers are given a presentation to deliver at the school about the importance of toothbrushing, teeth names and functions, and the effects of sugar on teeth. All the children receive a toothbrush and toothpaste and a leaflet with a toothbrushing chart and recipe suggestions. Dentaid also provides lesson plans for teachers including experiments and suggestions for classroom activities so they can follow up your visit in class. If you would like to visit local primary schools in your area as part of the Dentaid’s Bright Bites project please contact Kerry Crook on 01794 324249.
Volunteer on our mobile dental unit
We also have opportunities for dental professionals to volunteer on Dentaid’s mobile dental unit. The unit will visit homeless shelters, day centres and projects run by our charity partners. The unit will offer teeth screening, emergency pain relieving treatments and oral health advice. The mobile dental unit is also available for organisations to hire so they can deliver dental health projects in their area.
Volunteer on our other projects
Dentaid often has new opportunities for volunteers in the UK. This has included the Real Junk Tooth Project in Dewsbury which gave emergency dental care to vulnerable people on a “pay if you can afford to” basis. Dentaid is looking at launching similar projects in other parts of the country and will be returning to Dewsbury with its mobile dental unit.
