Dentaid’s workshop is a hive of activity. Our team of dedicated volunteers refurbish and recondition donated dental equipment that we send to dentists in the developing world.
Our portable dental chairs are made from scratch using traditional engineering skills. The metal frames are welded together before being fitted with a wooden base and hand stitched seat. Each chair is a real team effort. They are fully adjustable, so dentists can use them comfortably, and lightweight so they can be easily transported to the areas they are needed most.
Dentaid’s workshop also produces DentaidBoxes – portable dental surgeries that fit into a wheelie bin. Along with a pressure cooker, packs of instruments, oral health education materials and consumables the box is an entire surgery that can be operated without access to running water or electricity.
Donations come into Dentaid’s workshop every week. Our volunteers sort them and match available equipment with requests from our projects. Then it’s a case of getting everything working, testing it and shipping it to countries where it will make a huge difference.
